Minotaur & Mermaid

This cover is particularly interesting to me given the representation of wolves attacking the bull on some ancient pottery.

Could it be that the mermaid was actually the progenitor of the vampyre, while the one in love with the bull was a fake? Did the wolves want their she-wolf back? Or did the wolf of heaven transform himself into a bull?
