In my novels and histories, our kinds were born with different shades of skin but were overwhelmingly light-skinned compared to humans. Being light-skinned (or “fair”) was associated with having powers or supernatural abilities. This led to us being hunted and having to move around so it is not surprising that there are many locations known as the “white island” or the “white people.” It also distinguished the kind of magick or shamanism we would become known for. That is not to say, however, that we would not defend ourselves.
