Pono

Clean-cut California surf culture was a pre-curser for the punk straight-edge (clean-edge) movement. The Hawaiian equivalent includes what is known as Pono–doing the right thing and living “righteously.” The connection can be witnessed in the 80’s surfer and Val vocabulary with “righteous” and “righteous dude.”
