There is also a connection between Baubo and Sheela-na-gigs. Given that Sheela-na-gigs are also associated with the crone, I think these served as idols for older women or otherwise barren (I contend that barren and burren are etymologically connected) women who have sex for pleasure as opposed to childbirth. They could have also represented spots for prostitution with older women or to ward away the older women to leave prositution to younger women.

Another consideration-could she be a hermaphrodite or early representation of a trans person?
